Constructing Minds Show Garden for The RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park July 2023
by Carolyn Hardern & Jon Jarvis
We are volunteering our time designing & making this garden to raise awareness of mental health within the construction industry.
supporting the construction industry charities The Lighthouse Club and Mates in Mind
The Mental Health crisis in construction is known as the silent epidemic. Every single working day in the UK two workers take their own lives. This garden provides a calming space where a construction worker can start the process of disconnecting from negative thoughts.
After the show, the garden will be moved to Clatterbridge Hospital, Wirral where it can be a place of tranquility for patients, visitors and staff.
How we work
We appreciate that every organisation has its own culture and way of working, and it will be the same when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. Using a joined-up approach to mental health, we offer much more than just a tick-box mentality.

We have been delivering charitable support to the Construction Community since 1956. Founded by a group of gentlemen who had been attending a Ministry of Public Buildings and Works Exhibition on Tyneside, when they found themselves on the seafront at Whitley Bay.
Under the light of St Mary’s Lighthouse, they vowed to extend the goodwill they enjoyed at the show by starting something to unite and benefit the entire industry. From that day forward, the Lighthouse Club was formed to offer aid and assistance to ill or injured construction workers.
